The Grand Mosque at Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed Mosque, one of the largest mosque in the world

Some random facts about the mosque:
  • The 22,412 sq metre mosque sites equates to the size of 5 football fields.
  • The mosque has the world’s largest carpet at 7,119 square metres
  • It has 28 types of marble and 24-carat gold throughout
  • Officially opened in the month of Ramadan 2007 (December 2007)
  • Largest mosque in Arab Emirates, sixth largest in the world
  • Completed in 12 years at a cost of $550 million.
  • Mosque has a capacity to accommodate 40,000 worshippers, the main prayer hall can accommodate up to 9,000 worshippers, two halls next to the main prayer hall has a capacity of 1,500 each, exclusively for women
  • The mosque has achieved 3 entries into the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest carpet, the biggest chandelier as well as the largest dome of its kind in the world

99 names of Allah engraved on the wall

Brother this mosque is truly a super duper beautiful and systematically designed either inside or outside the mosque.

Masha Allah it is a very wonderful but is all of this really necessary? I can understand building a large mosque for a large Muslim population. But are all the crystals and golden ornaments really necessary? My biggest question is that how many could attend the regular 5 daily prayers at mosque? Having such a big mosque is a statement of achievements but if we observe at the young generation of Muslims we would really feel helpless. Masjid An-Nabawi is much simpler (in decoration) compared to this one.

May Allah have mercy on us and guide us to the true path; the path of those on whom He have bestowed His favor, not of those who have earned His anger, nor of those who go astray. Ameen.

Youth in A Mission

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu!

My dear Muslim brothers and sisters, sometimes we have to sit back and ponder about life and ponder about the purpose of it. At times we know the purpose, yet we fall of track due to the play and amusement of this world. No one can deny that this world is one big attraction. Hence, in order to ensure that we are in the right track, it is best to pause and reflect back.

You see, most people make the use of the situation based on a cycle. The EAT-WORK-SLEEP cycle, which will turns out to be boring. Monday the classes start and last till Friday. Then again the same old weekend, where some people claims to enjoy. The same old story again and again. But we have to remember and ask ourselves why we are here and stick to it. Don’t run from it! We have a mission to be completed.

Ha??? What kind of mission do you mean? Well, my dear brothers and sisters, what Allah requires from us is to be a mu’min and mujahid. A mu’min is one who is true and firm in his faith in Allah. Whereas a mujahid is one who strives his utmost, with all out, to gain Allah's pleasure. If we are a mu’min and a mujahid, Allah will assist us to rise to higher stations both in this world and in the Hereafter. This is the ultimate triumph. It’s not merely getting an A grades in the examination. Hence as a new semester will eventually starts, let’s us think hard of an investment that pays off long-term that is the Hereafter. Don’t you think so? It’s kind of a small act of worship which results in such a huge reward.

True believers are those who struggle and work hard to attain the pleasure and satisfaction of Allah in this world and in the Hereafter. There is no doubt that Allah is the one who grants success. Thus, let us ask Allah to guide and help us in each of our actions, to make it easy for us to follow the haq and guide us to actions that will lead us to Jannah! May He grant us all Al-Firdaus out of His mercy. Ameen!

kata jurucakap tentera, Leftenan Kolonel Romeo Brawner.

A Film on the Seerah

I know it’s kind of a little bit late to report this news. But who cares, better late than never huh… I was a bit startled when I heard about Barrie M. Osborne who is the best known for "The Matrix" and the "Lord of the Rings" producer is planning to make a film on Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Currently without a title, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in 2011. The film will cover the Prophet’s life from birth to his death.

A Qatar based Production Company; Al Noor Holdings has hired English-speaking Muslim actors as well as a Muslim scholar to oversee all aspects of the project. It is important to ensure that neither the Prophet s.a.w nor direct members of his family can be depicted. Hence, it will show the events surrounding his life and the effect on those around him like by having characters address the camera-as-the Prophet s.a.w or by having his companions step out of the Prophet’s tent to repeat what the Prophet has just said.

Similar to “The Message” it shows a true picture of the struggles and the development of Islam. To me, I found myself having a very deep respect to those who contributed in the work after viewing the film. The film is a beautiful work, and the story is moving, informative and well worth viewing for anyone and all ages. This kind of project should be supported as long as the script, photographing and production of the film are supervised by our Muslims scholars it will be okay insha Allah. Hoping that it will end up well!
