campus awareness campaign: In commemoration of the 64 years of An-Nakbah

Assalamualaikum wbt.

In commemoration of the 64 years of An-Nakbah on this upcoming 15th May 2012, Journalism Club has taken an initiative to upsurge the attentiveness and sense of belonging in the hearts of every living Muslim in general and IIUM Community in particular.

We would like to suggest:
1) Wear anything that symbolizes Palestine i.e Keffiye or Mafla
2) Be well-versed on what an-Nakbah actually is (requires a little bit of reading)
3) Pray for the safety and victory of Palestinians
4) Boycott goods that contribute directly to Zionist Israel.

Spread the cause^^

WHAT IS ACTUALLY AN-NAKBAH?

Why thousands of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and Syria on May 15, move close towards fences that restrict them to the Zionist-controlled Palestinian land?

The answer: They longing to return to their homes they had left on May 15, 1948 because of the expulsion, murder, rape and burn and seizing all their property which was done by none other than Zionist Israel.

By only bare feet, they marched tens, hundreds and even thousands of kilometers to find a place to flee into a neighbor’s country.

Until today, the key to their houses that symbolizes the right to return to the holy land one day is still within the possession of some.
This is An-Nakbah, the tragedy, the catastrophe occurred 63 years ago which became the proof of

FACTS BEHIND AN-NAKBAH

In Arabic, Al-Nakba, or An-Nakbah means "destruction." A destruction celebrated by the Zionists as their annual anniversary.

There are some important facts about the An-Nakbah:

1. An-Nakbah is the root of all problems in the conflict between Zionist and Palestine.

An-Nakbah set on May 15, exactly one day after the declaration of the newly ‘Israeli State’ by Zionist in 1948.

2. An-Nakbah is a traumatic event that caused the crisis conditions of Palestinian refugees.

At the end of 1948, two-thirds of the Palestinian population was expelled by Zionists. About 50% were brutally forced out from their homeland under Zionist army.

3. The Jewish leaders were looking at the expulsion of Palestinians from their home as an important turning point in the formation of 'Israel'.

Blue print of this ethnic cleansing is called the ‘Plan of the Haganah’, which was introduced by Prime Minister of 'Israel', David Ben Gurion.

He states that: "The use of terror, intimidation, killings, confiscation of land, is the determination of social services to remove the existing Arab population."

4. Hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were destroyed since the day of An-Nakbah 1948.

Zionist-Jews evacuated more than 450 towns and villages; most of them were left destroyed.

5. Property and valuables were confiscated from Palestinians and owned all-out by the Zionists.

The so called government by the name of ‘Israel’ took the refugees land property. There is no sense of humanity at all for the rights of Palestinian people, including the right to return to their homes.

6. Some Palestinians living in areas recognized as a regional 'Israel' are open to discrimination.

Although most of the Palestinian populations were expelled, some others survive on the land that is now referred to as 'Israel'. They had the right to select and work in offices, but were discriminated by special laws that are bias towards Palestinian.

7. Until today, millions of Palestinian refugees are still scattered around the world.

The Palestinian refugees registered under the UN are around 4.4 million people. It is estimated that there are a million more out there which was unable to be recorded by the UN.

8. International law specifies that the Palestinian refugees have their right to return.

The right to return has been designated by the United Nations for Palestinian refugees in the UN Resolution of 194 in 1948.

However, the Zionists acted cold-bloodedly ignoring the rules and still outlaw Palestinian refugees who wish to return to their homes.

9. Rights of the Palestinian refugees problem solving are essential to peace in the Middle East.

A myriad majority of the Palestinian people agreed that the rights of IDPs (Internally Displaced Person) must be met first before peace between Palestine and 'Israel' may be achieved.

Based on polling conducted in August 2007 by the Communications and Media Center of Jerusalem, around 70 percent believed that, the Palestinian people have their utmost rights to return to the homeland.

[Al-Baqarah:264]
