[Release Statement] Donations Update and Thanks!

INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA

RELEASE STATEMENT

On 24 October 2011, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Journalism Club had been organized a forum "Somalia and Palestine: Our responsibility" at ADM LT 3, IIUM Gombak Campus. With the presence of great panelist from Palestine and Somalia activist, we managed to conduct a flash donation during the forum.

On behalf of everyone who organized the fundraising, we want to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who donated and made this effort a monumental success!
We managed to pull in just over RM4205.50, Rp20 000, Sin$2.00, US$2.00, 6Dirham and mostly donations from IIUM's generous residents.

All of the collected donations will be distributed to brothers in Somalia and Palestine with the help of Haluan Malaysia. There are a number of reasons why must put them in priority list, but primary as humanitarian aid to Somali and Palestinean.

Finally, we want to again thank our amazing IIUM staff made this possible, including Bro Wan Rizaila and Dr Asiah from Students Activity Center, IIUM.

Maksudnya:

Makin subur dan tersiarlah agama Islam yang disiarkan oleh para mubaligh Islam. Mendapat cahaya Islam merupakan suatu nikmat yang besar jika dihayati.

Hijau adalah warna dan lambang agama Islam. Dikira pengantin baru, maksudnya, agama Islam begitu menarik dan kemunculannya yang baru diibaratkan bagaikan pengantin baru.

Cah angon atau pengembala, diibaratkan dengan penguasa yang ‘mengembalakan’ rakyat. Para penguasa itu disarankan untuk segera masuk agama Islam (disimbolkan dengan buah belimbing yang mempunyai bentuk segi lima sebagai lambang rukun Islam).

Walaupun licin, susah, tetapi usahakanlah agar dapat masuk Islam demi mensucikan dodot (Dodot adalah jenis pakaian tradisional Jawa yang sering dipakai pembesar zaman dulu. Bagi orang Jawa, agama adalah ibarat pakaian, maka dodot dipakai sebagai lambang agama atau kepercayaan).

Pakaianmu, (yaitu) agamamu sudah rosak, kerana dicampur dengan kepercayaan animisme. Jika akidah bercampur baur, ia boleh menyebabkan segala amalan yang silakukan sebelum ini sebagai sia-sia.

Agama yang sudah rusak itu jahitlah (perbaikilah dengan belajar ilmu agama), sebagai bekal menghadap Tuhan. Ilmu sangat penting dalam mempelajari agama bukan setakat ikut-ikut ahli ibadah yang tiada asalnya dari agama Islam.

Selagi masih hidup, masih ada kesempatan, bertaubatlah kerana Allah Maha Penyayang dan Maha Pengampun. Kepada Dialah tempat manusia kembali.

Bergembiralah dengan agama Islam, semoga kalian mendapat anugerah dari Tuhan.

SUNAN KALIJAGA

Sunan Kalijaga pendakwah yang namanya paling banyak disebut masyarakat Jawa. Beliau lahir sekitar tahun 1450 Masehi.

Dalam dakwah, beliau mempunyai pola yang sama dengan mentor sekaligus sahabat rapatnya, Sunan Bonang. Walaupun kefahaman keagamaannya cenderung "sufistik berbasis salaf" -bukan sufi panteistik (pemujaan semata) namun ia membantu penyebaran Islam di tanah Jawa.

Beliau juga memilih kesenian dan kebudayaan sebagai sarana untuk berdakwah dan sangat toleran pada budaya setempat. Ia berpendapat bahawa masyarakat akan menjauh jika diserang pendiriannya.

Maka mereka harus didekati secara bertahap: mengikuti sambil mempengaruhi. Sunan Kalijaga berkeyakinan jika Islam sudah difahami, dengan sendirinya kebiasaan lama akan hilang.

Tidak menghairankan, ajaran Sunan Kalijaga dapat mengasimilasikan budaya setempat dalam menyebarkan Islam. Beliau menggunakan seni ukir, wayang, gamelan, serta seni suara sebagai sarana dakwah. Beberapa lagu suluk ciptaannya yang popular adalah Lir-ilir dan Gundul-gundul Pacul.

Metode dakwah tersebut sangat efektif. Sebagian besar bangsawan di Jawa memeluk Islam melalui Sunan Kalijaga

Lagu yang banyak kiasannya ini sangat bernilai tinggi kesusasteraannya sehingga Lir-ilir ini menjadi salah satu soundtrack untuk film sang pencerah, film Karya Hanung Bramantyo yang menceritakan mengenai kehidupan KH. Ahmad Dahlan sang pendiri Muhammadiyah

It is sad to hear deaths every day. If it is a “normal death” due to sickness, immediate death and health may not be so tragic because these types of death are “automatic.”

But when it comes to “manual” deaths; where the person takes his one soul out of his body, it is the combination of sad and disgust. Why should a person commit suicide? It is more catastrophic if these persons kill themselves over reasons as trivial as SPM results.

Over SPM results? Is that real? Believe it or not, it happens every year after the SPM results are announced.

Why does this killing yourself scene occur because of examination results? Many people will claim “this proves the failure of the examination oriented education systems nowadays.”

The question to be raised is “Is it true that these suicide cases are because of the failure of the education system?”

An examination oriented education system is surely boring, but let us discuss.

Minority vs. majority

With the advent of outstanding peoples like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Colonel Harland Sanders; people at large often take them as proofs proving the failure of the education system nowadays.

What do these people have in common? All of them are dropouts of university or school. The university and school are the manifestation of the education system. Although they were “rejected” products of the education system but they managed to achieve success in life.

But, ironically, as outstanding these outstanding people may be, they are the minority. The majority of the people are products of the educational system. Only gifted people are given the gift of being outstanding.

Looking at this fact, let us question ourselves back “Is the education system nowadays still a failure?”

The corrupted education system

Abu Hassan Ali An Nadwi once said that “The education system of today failed to give birth to two groups of people: the first is those who are khusyuk in ‘ibadah, and the second is those who cry when a sin is done.”

An exam oriented education system is boring and has always been. You need to waste valuable hours of your time learning something you can’t apply in your daily life. You need to force thousands of facts and figures into your head and once your exams have finished, you forget them all.

Yeah, the education system today is not productive. It focuses more on academics rather than the development of oneself. It trains you how to be a passive person rather than active. It teaches you to become a follower rather than to become a leader.

Our responsibility

Let us stop gossiping on the corrupted education system. Let us stop saying badly to the authority even if they are bad.

Let us focus on what we can do to solve this catastrophe. If we keep on saying this and repeating that, commenting this and complaining that, we will never go anywhere.

But if we stop these sweet gossiping and focus on finding the solution, we will get somewhere.

What can we do?

The analogy is very simple. Have you ever wondered how fish is never salty even though they live in a salty sea?

Let us be like “fishes” that are never influenced by the environment we are in. If the environment is bad, we will never be bad.

Even if the education system is exam-oriented, we can use this to our advantage. We need to consider exams as our platform for us to gain knowledge.

We need to change our mind setting from studying for exams to studying for knowledge.

The education system does not train us to be great speakers who are never afraid in presenting ideas in front of people. We need to put ourselves into some training.

If the education system does not prepare us to become leaders, we prepare ourselves to become leaders by indulging in self-development programs.

Conclusion: Are exams still boring?

You know, if we really change our mindset, impossible is nothing and nothing is impossible. And the feeling of boredom in exams will never be felt. Why do we need to feel bored with exams when we sit for exams only for the sake of knowledge?

Studying for knowledge means studying for Allah; when everything is centered because of Allah, there will be no cases of death occurring every year

FATTABIOUNI | FOLLOW PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) TRADITIONS).

"Qul in kuntum tuhibbuna Allaha faittabiouni yuhbibkumu Allahu wayaghfir lakum tzunubakum waAllahu ghafurur rahim. [ali-Imran:31]"

"Say (o Muhammad): If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."

Today, any observer into the state of the Ummah will find a large vacuum between them and their prophet ( Muhamad pbuh) whether in understanding, following (ittiba') or even his love... they have become distant from his traditions and guidance and that is one of the main reasons for their defeat (into ma'siah and munkar)and weakness.

The "Fattabiouni" projects is intended to contribute towards on filling this vacuum and bring people closer to the Prophetic Tradition (as-Sunnah) in apositive and simple way which covers all aspects of their daily life.

Their Mission

To revive and introduce the as-Sunnah and explain how they can be applied in a format that is relevant to our day and age using the latest means and tools available.

Their Main Objectives

Delivering the Prophetic Tradition in a manner that increases the love and glorification of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in peoples hearts and minds.

Encourage people to adopt the Prophetic Traditions while highlighting their benefit in both this world and the afterlife.

Presenting the as-Sunnah in a manner that will allow every Muslim to participate in the spread of the Prophetic Traditions.

Working towards achieving Social Responsibility through the spread and application of the Prophetic Tradition.

Editorial Views

This project remind us about previous campaign by Muslims in British/Europe when they introduce Innovative Campaign: Inspired by Muhammad (pbuh) to the Britons.

The Inspired by Muhammad campaign is designed to improve the public understanding of Islam and Muslims. It showcases Britons demonstrating how Muhammad inspires them to contribute to society, with a focus on women’s rights, social justice and the environment.

They tryied to approach the Non-Muslim community why they must follow the Prophetic Teaching as it is the only solution to end of the crisis of moral that are taking place in Western Society.

That is why IIUM Journalism Club posting this entry as we have to create a phenomenon in IIUM especially and Malaysia at large by doing the similar way to create the Bee'ah Sholehah (Good Environment) to avoid any resistance from outside to mash up the society with something immoral.

ISLAH (Reforming the mind and soul)

The word Islah (reform) must be in the heart of people who wanna change the society with the advantage of NEW MEDIA.

Before that, we need the touch of Tarbeeyah (education) to give some actual picture of Islam as it will guide the Musleh (the preacher/reformer) to invite other people into goodness.

In New media, we have youtube, Facebook, Blogspot-Wordpress, twitter and etc. It is now we as a reformist using these various opportunity and then start our next step to introduce the way of Islam in the heart of the community as well as the leaders.

We not need to use such a CONTROVERSIAL way to create the awareness, but need a creative way by exampling the Fattabiouni Project and taking them as a benchmark to create a better Ummah.

We don't need extreme 'Salafi' , fanatic 'Sufism', extreme 'Shiites' and same ideas goes to Liberal Muslim to make such a controversial discussion which will confuse our brothers and sisters in to learn about Islam.

Moderation

Enough just to maintain our Muslim status as Moderate Muslim rather than become Ghulluw (extremist) by comparing which one of them is the righteous one. Al-Qur'an guide us with:

"wa kazaalika ja'alnaakum ummatan wa satan litakoonoo shuhadaa'a 'alannasi, wayakuna ar-rasulu 'aalaykum shahida. Wama ja'alna alqiblata allati kunta 'alayha illa lina'alama man yattabiou ar-rasoola mimman yanqalibu 'ala 'aqibayhi. Wain kanat lakabiratan illa 'ala allatziena hada Allahu wama kana Allahu liyudee'a imanakum inna Allaha binnasi laraufun rahim" [al-Baqarah:143]

"Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Messenger a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Messenger from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah Make your faith of no effect. For Allah is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful."

From the above ayah, we just need to be 'ummatan wasatha' (moderation in living) by following as-Sunnah ar-Rasul SAW, obey Allah's message to us and not to be out from the scholars' consensus.

Moreover, Allah already give us the main point on that verse-the Qiblah as it shows us the symbol of unity thus we need to throw away all the prejudices out of our mind. This is actually the way of Salaf as-sholeh.

In the end as today is Awal Muharram, where Muslims trying to renew their intention to change from bad to good, lets review again and practice as the 31st verse of ali-Imran stated to us. May Allah bless us with His Guidance and His Blessing.

DEMOCRATIC MALAYSIA

Malaysia is a democratic country which holding monarch under its federal constitution. When we speak about Malaysian constitution, the government system is closely modelled on the Westminster Parliamentary System that we inherited it from colonial era. The head of state is the Yang DiPertuan Agong, and The head of government is the Prime minister.

Malaysian already talk about the coming general election (PRU13). Whether we realize it or not students are also part of the voters and they should be allowed to discharge their responsibilities by voting in the general election of the 12th to be held soon for the good of religion, race and nation.

YOUTH, STUDENTS AND THEIR VOTE

Unfortunately, hedonism starting to penetrate the young people along with development in the world of entertainment that caused them to ignore the things that is more important in their lives, their right to vote.

In a statement of Mohd Faisal Mustafa, a student activist said that 80 percent from 4.9 million of youth eligible to vote have not yet register as voter. The reasons students do not want to vote is they think youth cannot influence the government policies and the future of the country, there is no time to vote, not interested, lazy, not important, but some say do not know where and how to vote.

So as IIUM students what is your preparation, information regarding to our next General Election (PRU13) ? If you don’t register yet for this coming PRU13 lets doing this simple procedure and grab the information here.

1-WHO SHALL I VOTE FOR?

-In the name of democracy, you are entitled to your personal political preference. We don't care who you vote for as long as you do vote.

2-WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO VOTE?

-You need to be a Malaysian citizen over the age of 21. You also need to be a registered voter.

3-HOW DO I REGISTER MYSELF AS A VOTER?

-There are many voluntary organizations, NGOs and political parties who regularly promote voter registration in public places and events. You may register through them. You may also register at any IIUM post office. So simple. Just bring you identity card and ask at the counter. It is very easy and takes less than 5 minutes.

4-WHEN SHOULD I REGISTER?

-You may register at anytime. However, if you intend to vote in the coming general election, please register yourself as soon as possible. The Election Commission imposes a voter registration cut-off period counting back 3 months from the date of the election. In other words, you are only eligible to vote if you had registered at least 3 months before the date of the general election. SO, DO REGISTER NOW AND DONT WAIT!!!

Allah has taken oath of ten nights in Surah Al-Fajr, "walfajr, walayalin 'ashr"-By the DAWN, by The Ten nights (Al-Fajr 89:1-2). According to the majority of the commentators of Qur’ãn, the nights are those of the (first) ten days of Zul Hijjah.

Abu Hurayrah RA related that Rasulullah SAW said, "On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the (first) ten days of DzulHijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the worship of each of these nights is equal to the worship of Laylatul Qadr." (Tirmizi, Ibn Majah)

INFAQ DI DALAM AL-QURAN

Bandingan (derma) orang-orang yang membelanjakan hartanya pada jalan Allah, ialah sama seperti sebiji benih yang tumbuh menerbitkan tujuh tangkai; tiap-tiap tangkai itu pula mengandungi seratus biji dan (ingatlah), Allah akan melipatgandakan pahala bagi sesiapa yang dikehendakiNya dan Allah Maha Luas (rahmat) kurniaNya, lagi Meliputi ilmu pengetahuanNya.

[Al-Baqarah:261]

Orang-orang yang membelanjakan hartanya pada jalan (agama) Allah, kemudian mereka tidak mengiringi apa yang mereka belanjakan itu dengan perkataan membangkit-bangkit (pemberiannya) dan tidak pula menyinggung atau menyakiti (pihak yang diberi), mereka beroleh pahala di sisi Tuhan mereka dan tidak ada kebimbangan (dari berlakunya kejadian yang tidak baik) terhadap mereka dan mereka pula tidak akan berdukacita.

[Al-Baqarah:262]

(Menolak peminta-peminta sedekah) dengan perkataan yang baik dan memaafkan (kesilapan mereka) adalah lebih baik daripada sedekah (pemberian) yang diiringi (dengan perbuatan atau perkataan yang) menyakitkan hati dan (ingatlah), Allah Maha Kaya, lagi Maha Penyabar.

[Al-Baqarah:263]

Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Jangan rosakkan (pahala amal) sedekah kamu dengan perkataan membangkit-bangkit dan (kelakuan yang) menyakiti, seperti (rosaknya pahala amal sedekah) orang yang membelanjakan hartanya kerana hendak menunjuk-nunjuk kepada manusia (riak) dan dia pula tidak beriman kepada Allah dan hari akhirat. Maka bandingan orang itu ialah seperti batu licin yang ada tanah di atasnya, kemudian batu itu ditimpa hujan lebat, lalu ditinggalkannya bersih licin (tidak bertanah lagi). (Demikianlah juga halnya orang-orang yang kafir dan riak itu) mereka tidak akan mendapat sesuatu (pahala) pun dari apa yang mereka usahakan dan (ingatlah), Allah tidak akan memberi petunjuk kepada kaum yang kafir.

KENAPA DENGAN SOMALIA?

Perhatikanlah nikmat-nikmat Allah disekeliling kita. Dia memudahkan hamba-hambaNya mendapatkan apa yang mereka perlukan antaranya ialah makanan dan minuman. Soal makan dan minum tidak boleh lari daripada kita sebagai keperluan asas untuk hidup. Tanpanya, kehidupan manusia akan bertambah sukar.

Kita perlu berterima kasih atas kurniaan Allah SWT yang memberikan kita banyak nikmat untuk disyukuri. Dia telah memudahkan kita untuk mendapat air, memberikan kita rezeki untuk makan dan namun, adakah nikmat-nikmat yang kita kecapi itu belum lagi mencukupi bagi kita?

Rata-rata di Malaysia amnya dan UIAM khasnya, ada dikalangan kita yang makan enam kali sehari. Anda kenyang dengan kemewahan dunia dengan santapan yang pelbagai jenis sajian. Tetapi, pernahkah anda menjaga hak-hak badan dan perut anda yang hanya sebagai pinjaman dari Tuhan selain memikirkan kesengsaraan saudara kita di Somalia?

Renungi kembali kehidupan anda! Perhatikan nikmat Tuhan Yang Maha Pemurah dan Maha Pengasih ketika menyediakan keperluan anda sehari-hari. Pernahkah anda berfikir akan golongan yang tidak bernasib baik? Sejauh mana anda me’refleksi’ diri dengan membandingkan keadaan Malaysia/UIAM yang serba kemewahan ini dengan keadaan umat Islam di Somalia?

Di Malaysia, Allah turunkan hujan kepada kita sepanjang tahun. Ini berbeza dengan cerita seorang sahabat yang berasal dari Yaman. Dia pernah berkata: “You Malaysian need to thank Allah always as He give you bounty of ni’mah. In my country, to see the rain is difficult even to hear it needs to wait for months.” SubhanAllah, hanya orang-orang yang berakal sahajalah yang akan memikirkan semua ini dan ini semua berlaku hanyalah dengan keizinan dan kekuasaanNya.

Kita renungi ayat Allah SAW dibawah ini:

“Dan di antara tanda-tanda kekuasaanNya, Dia memperlihatkan kepadamu kilat untuk (menimbulkan) ketakutan dan harapan, dan Dia menurunkan air hujan dari langit, lalu menghidupkan bumi dengan air itu sesudah matinya(kering). Sesungguhnya pada yang demikian itu benar-benar terdapat tanda-tanda bagi kaum yang menggunakan akalnya.”(Ar-Ruum:24)

Perkara ini perlu kita tanya sedalam-dalamnya dalam hati kita dan terus menyahut seruan membantu umat yang hidup dalam kelaparan dan kehausan. Walaupun bukan dengan tenaga, cukuplah hanya wang ringgit. Sumbangan derma anda mampu membantu mereka meringankan beban walaupun hanya RM0.10. Tak pun, berdoalah untuk mereka.

UMAT ISLAM YANG SENGSARA

Di Somalia, sejumlah 2.8 juta penduduk menjadi pelarian dan daripada jmlah itu, seramai 310 ribu kanak-kanak di kategorikan sebagai kekurangan zat makanan. Setiap hari, sejumlah 6-10 ribu kanak-kanak meninggal dunia. Sesetengah mereka dipercayai berjalan sejauh 400km untuk sampai ke kem-kem pelarian di Habsyah dan Kenya.

Alangkah jauh jauh bezanya keadaan manusia di Malaysia dengan mereka. Tiada apa yang boleh kita ucapkan selain,

“Maka Maha Suci Allahlah pencipta yang lebih baik”

(Surah Al-Mukminun:14)

Oleh itu, marilah kita bersama-sama menyumbang wang ringgit seikhlas yang mungkin supaya beban mereka ditanggung kita bersama.Ya Allah, ringankan dan lapangkanlah dadaku, IKHLAS membantu saudaraku. Nabi SAW bersabda;

Dari Abu Hurairah r.a meriwayatkan daripada Rasulullah SAW, Baginda bersabda bermaksud: “Sesiapa yang melepaskan salah satu kesusahan dunia daripasa seorang Mukmin, maka Allah akan melepaskan salah satu kesusahannya pada hari kiamat. Sesiapa yang memudahkan orang yang sedang dilanda kesulitan, maka Allah akan memudahkannya di dunia dan diakhirat…” (Riwayat Tirmizi: 2940)

PESANAN

Ingatlah, ujian yang menimpa kamu itu penghapus dosa dan ingatlah, pertolongan Allah itu sangat dekat.

Dari abu Said al-Khudri r.a dan Abu Hurairah r.a, Nabi SAW bersabda bermaksud;

“Tiada yang menimpa seorang mukmin suatu penyakit yang berpanjangan, kepayahan, sebarang jenis penyakit dan kesedihan malahan kedukacitaan, melainkan dihapuskan sebahagian daripada dosa-dosanya.”

(Riwayat Bukhari dan Muslim)

Berikut disenaraikan beberapa NGO yang telah mengadakan inisiatif mulia bagi membantu keadaan saudara-saudara kita di Somalia berhadapan dengan krisis yang sangat menyeksakan ini:

SURAH AT-TAUBAH AYAT 18 DAN 107-110

Assalamualaikum WBT

Alhamdulillah, nahmmaduhu wanasta’enuhu wanastaqfiruh. Wa na’uzubillahi min shururi anfusina, wa minsayyia ’amalina. Man yahdillahu fala mudhillalah, waman yudhlil fala hadiyalah.

Dalam Surah At-Taubah, sudah banyak Allah beri peringatan kepada kita khususnya menjadikan masjid sebagai tempat berkumpul manusia untuk beribadah kepada Allah SWT. Sayang sekali sekiranya masjid tidak dihidupkan dengan aktiviti-aktiviti keagamaan dan kemasyarakatan untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Sang Pencipta. Allah SWT berfirman:

إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَاجِدَ اللَّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَلَمْ يَخْشَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۖ فَعَسَىٰ أُولَـٰئِكَ أَن يَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُهْتَدِينَ

"Hanyasanya yang layak memakmurkan (menghidupkan) masjid-masjid Allah itu ialah orang-orang yang beriman kepada Allah dan hari akhirat serta mendirikan sembahyang dan menunaikan zakat dan tidak takut melainkan kepada Allah, (dengan adanya sifat-sifat yang tersebut) maka adalah diharapkan mereka menjadi dari golongan yang mendapat petunjuk." [Surah At-Taubah:18]

Masjid Taqwa dan Masjid Dhirar

Di dalam kitab suci Al-Quran, masjid terdapat bermacam-macam. Pertama ialah Masjid Taqwa dan kedua ialah masjid DHIRAR. Masjid Taqwa ialah masjid yang dibangunkan atas dasar iman dan taqwa, untuk mencari keredhaanNya dan bukan untuk maksud yang lain.

لَا تَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدًا ۚ لَّمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَىٰ مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِيهِ ۚ فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَن يَتَطَهَّرُوا ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ

“Seseungguhnya masjid yang didirikan atas iman dan Taqwa itulah yang Hak dimana engkau beribadat, dan didalamnya terdapat orang-orang yang ingin menyucikan diri dan Allah SWTsangat suka akan orang yang menyucikan diri.”

[Surah Attaubah:108]

Manakala Masjid DHIRAR pula masjid yang dibangunkan untuk memecahkan kekuatan umat islam dan didirikan atas dasar ke’munafik’an dan permusuhan terhadap dasar atau sistem Islam.

وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مَسْجِدًا ضِرَارًا وَكُفْرًا وَتَفْرِيقًا بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِرْصَادًا لِّمَنْ حَارَبَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَا إِلَّا الْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

“Dan mereka (orang-orang munafik) itu telah membangunkan masjid kerana hendak menimbulkan bahaya, kerana kekafiran mereka memecahkan kesatuan antara orang mukmin dan serta untuk menunggu kedatangan orang-orang yang memerangi Allah dan RasulNya sejak dahulu. Mereka dengan pasti bersumpah, “kami hanya menghendaki kebaikan”. Dan Allah menjadi saksi bahawa mereka itu pendusta (dalam sumpah mereka)."

[Surah Attaubah:107]

Masjid dhirar ini telah wujud sejak dari zaman nabi, dimana mereka mengasingkan diri daripada orang-orang mukmin untuk memecah belahkan umat islam ketika itu. Masjid pertama yang mereka dirikan alah di Quba. Kita boleh lihat sejarah peninggalannya sehingga ke hari ini.

“Orang-orang yang memerangi Allah dan Rasul-Nya sejak dahulu”

Yang dimaksudkan dengan orang-orang yang memerangi Allah SWT dan Rasul-Nya sejak dahulu ialah seorang pendeta Nasrani bernama Abu ‘Amir yang mereka tunggu-tunggu kedatangannya dari Sham (sekarang Syria) unruk melaksanakan solat di mana mereka dirikan (orang-orang munafik) serta membawa tentera-tentera Romawi yang akan menyerang orang muslim.

Dengan Keizinan Allah, Abu ‘Amir mati dalam perjalanan dari sham dan Rasulullah SAW telah meminta Sahabat-sahabat baginda untuk merobohkan masjid setelah turunnya wahyu kepada baginda setelah kembali dari perang Tabuk.

Perkara ini bukan baharu. Pada zaman kini di mana sistem jahiliyah digunakan, Sangat ramai yang menjadikan agama hanya sebagai trademark ataupun identiti diri. Mereka menerima Islam bukan secara menyeluruh tetapi mengambil sebahagian tanpa rasa kesal dan takut akan seksaan Allah SWT dan amaran Rasulullah SAW.

Mereka inilah yang dinamakan orang-orang yang memerangi Allah SWT dan Rasul-Nya seperti ayat 107, surah At-Taubah. Mereka inilah golongan yang menjadikan Islam hanya untuk memperoleh kepentingan diri.

“Kami hanya menghendaki kebaikan”

Orang-orang munafik selalu memberikan alasan bahawa mereka selalu menginginkan kebaikan, namun niat disebalik dan terselindung hanyalah mahu meruntuhkan Agama Allah. Mereka terdiri daripada golongan Jahil, orang-orang fasiq dan orang yang mengidamkan syariat Islam dan system Islam tidak dihidupkan dan menghalangnya daripada dilaksanakan.

Mereka menggunakan kejahilan untuk mencapai kepuasan nafsu mereka tanpa mengambil pengajaran dan iktibar daripada ajaran Rasulullah yang menyuruh menjadikan masjid tempat memperoleh ilmu, tempat ibadah dan tempat mengukuhkan ukhuwwah Islamiah. Mereka inilah golongan yang telah Allah sesatkan untuk mengenal kembali Islam sebagai agama yang syumul.

أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَىٰ تَقْوَىٰ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانٍ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ فَانْهَارَ بِهِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ

"Maka adakah orang yang membangunkan masjid yang didirikannya di atas dasar takwa kepada Allah dan (untuk mencari) keredaan Allah itu lebih baik ataukah orang yang membangunkan masjid yang didirikannya di tepi jurang yang (hampir) runtuh, lalu runtuhlah ia dengan orang yang membangunkannya ke dalam api Neraka? Dan (ingatlah) Allah tidak akan memberi hidayat petunjuk kepada orang-orang yang zalim."

[Surah At-Taubah:109]

لَا يَزَالُ بُنْيَانُهُمُ الَّذِي بَنَوْا رِيبَةً فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَّا أَن تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

"(Keruntuhan masjid) yang dibina oleh mereka yang munafik itu sentiasa menjadi penyakit syak dan keluh-kesah (lebih daripada yang sedia ada) dalam hati mereka, (dan tidak akan habis) kecuali (apabila) hati mereka hancur-luluh (dalam tanah). Dan (ingatlah) Allah Maha Mengetahui, lagi Maha Bijaksana."

[Surah At-Taubah:110]

Pemuda dan Program-program di Masjid

Dalam menghadapi gaya hidup di zaman modenisasi dan cara hidup kebaratan, pelbagai inisiatif perlu dilakukan oleh masyarakat yang faham akan Islam. Golongan yang cakna dengan masalah remaja perlu tampil memberikan khidmat terbaik dalam memurnikan Islam alam diri anak-anak muda. Sebagai contoh menjadikan masjid sebagai tempat kegiatan remaja.

Masjid perlulah di imarahkan dengan program-program khas sesuai untuk remaja bagi menarik perhatian golongan ini untuk ke masjid. Dari situ, proses pentarbiyahan perlu dilakukan bagi memulihkan akidah dan akhlak supaya cahaya Islam sampai ke dalam diri mereka.

Jangan jadikan Masjid sebagai tempat untuk satu golongan sahaja khususnya warga yang sudah berumur. Ini kerana kita mengabaikan sikap bertanggungjawab kepada masyarakat dalam mendidik mereka supaya menjadi orang yang bertaqwa. Perkara ini perlu jelas bagi memastikan setiap golongan berhak menerima jamuan rohani di Masjid.

Peranan Pemimpin

Pemimpin perlulah memainkan peranan sebenar melaksanakan Amar makruf dengan menjadikan masjid sebagai ‘Hotspot’ bagi aktiviti golongan muda meraih manfaat daripadanya bagi mengelakkan mereka terjerebak dengan perkara-perkara MUNKAR. Bukan menyekat aktiviti-aktiviti yang mereka rasakan tidak memberikan manfaat kepada mereka (pemimpin). Masjid bukan hak milik individu, tetapi hak setiap masyarakat yang beragama Islam.

Bagaimana mahu menyelamatkan golongan muda tetapi menyekat pelbagai kegiatan kerohanian untuk dijalankan di masjid? Sebagai pemimpin dalam masyarakat, mereka perlulah bersikap lebih toleransi dan adil dalam memberi khidmat kepada masyarakat tanpa mengira status sosial dan fahaman dengan menyediakan program-progran ilmiah untuk golongan muda supaya mereka lebih dekat dengan masjid seterusnya mentarbiyah diri mereka menjadikan Islam sebagai cara hidup.

From this point of view, we can said that Muslim nowadays are no longer live in harmony as a Ummah. May be this issue is sensitive for those whom concern but as a part of journalism ethics, we have to clear this misconception among Muslims.

The thing is, if you want to make some academic articles or research or talks, please be sure that you have the knowledge about it, understanding and references that can support you. You might certain to the articles you're writing on, but still in out there are some people who have their own understanding that cant match to your ideas and intellectual. As to be safe, we cannot say they are wrong because they have their own 'daleel' or reference to support them.

Therefore, make sure that the sources are 'muktabar' that you taken is from our prominent scholars. Others than that, it is a different story.

If you have the knowledge and understanding about something, but in the end you have no reference, it just a shaky statement of thought. If someone want you to prove it, you cant due to lack of references and from this, it will arising the debate to determine which one is true-(the writers and readers)

That's why we should seek for teacher to teach us regarding to religion by the way of TALAQQI. We cannot learn it with only the books that we buy, or borrow from others. This exception only for our prophet SAW because he got the knowledge and understanding through divine source.

We cannot deny that you want to contribute something for Islam and want to share your thought to others. But it not suffice if the reference you get is not stated. The originality and the authenticity of our articles may affect ourselves, community and Islam itself.

Other words, as a responsible Muslim, we must take it seriously and try not to make as many as much misconception about Islam. West always want to promote ISLAMOPHOBIA through Ghazwul-fikr (mindset attack)

In Response, we must defense our religion from this deviant teaching which propagate from the WEST.

Some of the quotation from FBI agent, William Gawthrop regarding his IDEA to promote ISLAMOPHOBIA;

“We waste a lot of analytic effort talking about the type of weapon, the timing, the tactics. All of that is irrelevant … if you have an Islamic motivation for actions. Even taking down hostile states like Iran is futile, since “there are still internal forces that will seek to exert Islamic rule again.”

The best strategy for undermining militants, Gawthrop suggested, is to go after Islam itself. To undermine the validity of key Islamic scriptures and key Muslim leaders.

إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ ۗ وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ

Lo! religion with Allah (is) the Surrender (to His Will and Guidance). Those who (formerly) received the Scripture differed only after knowledge came unto them, through transgression among themselves. Whoso disbelieveth the revelations of Allah (will find that) lo! Allah is swift at reckoning.

(Ali-Imran: 19)

وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ
And if you obey most of those in the earth, they will lead you astray from Allah's way; they follow but conjecture and they only lie.

(Al-An'am: 116)

وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ

And should the truth follow their low desires, surely the heavens and the earth and all those who are therein would have perished. Nay! We have brought to them their reminder, but from their reminder they turn aside.

(Al-Mukminun: 71)

Alhamdulillah, we are still in the mood of Shawwal. Month of Ramadhan is not only for us to feel hunger but to educate ourselves to become a righteous person. We know that we can’t fast for a year.

In a hadith, Umar al-Khattab R.A narrates that the Prophet forbade us to fast in n adidiladha and Aidilfitri. Wives are forbidden to fast while their husband at home. This Hadith proves that as a fitrah, human cannot fast all the year.

Thus, the blessing of Allah has simplified our life to serve the Him. In the Hadith, those who are fasting ramadhan and 6 days of Shawwal, he fast like a year. So, let us seize this opportunity.

Our role in the new semester (seeking knowledge)

Many hadith describe about knowledge. Therefore, Muslim youth need to search for opportunities as they are still young. As a Muslim, knowledge is the most important property for us to keep looking and always sincere in the pursuit of knowledge. In an effort to create a sense of integrity and sincere intention, it should be a strong understanding of why we need to seek knowledge.

He said-“If you want to the world, you must have knowledge. Same goes for hereafter. So, you must have the knowledge for achieving both.

Furthermore, in the kuliyah, He mentioned the criteria useful knowledge:

1- The knowledge we seek for must be for the purpose of worship.

Dr Mahdi Golshani in his ‘Holy Quran and the Sciences of Nature’ wrote, " with the understanding of knowledge we can know Allah and thus our worship is highly valued". With the help of knowledge, in many ways and attempts we can find way to seek the truth in our life.

Knowledge is useful if it can improve or increase our knowledge of Almighty Allah. Prophet Muhammad said "Verily that we obey Allah with the knowledge and worship also knowledge.

Human evil is due to ignorance.”

2- The knowledge can develop and beneficial for our ummah.

People who search for knowledge will have privileged position. In a hadith, the Prophet said "If he died in the pursuit of knowledge to lift up Islam, Paradise is reserved for him with his neighbor is the prophets."

3- People who have knowledge can guide others to be a good muslim.

Prophet Muhammad SAW said-"Allah would love my successor (Islam missionary). Who is my successor? He is the one who teach the knowledge (good things) to the people.”

4- The knowledge to solve community problems. Such as poverty, injustice and moral evil government.

Intention

We know that the pursuit of knowledge of engineering, medical, religious, economic and others, can ensure a better future for us. But you were wrong if the knowledge is not intended solely for Allah. Thus it would not be beneficial to himself and others that will result only fatigue of seeking knowledge.

Think

One of the activity of the mind is thinking, that use the potential of our mind and tough and utilieze the knowledge we get. Strong faith is results from confidence by believing the sign of the creation (ayatul-qaniyah) with the evidence of power of Allah’s creation so that serenity of mind can be achieved.

Thinking can distinguish human and animal. Human being have the hearing, vision, sense and lost of bountie from Allah. If they kufr (rejecting faith), they are worse than animals.

Thinking must produce good and useful ideas. Allah commands Muslims to think and relates everythings and anything with Allah. People who do not use their mind to think, they will get lost from the laws of Islam (shariah).

Ibn hajar al-asqolani once said how think for the perfection of life.

Think about the guidance of Allah by believing Him.
Think about the bounties of Allah until the heart bring us to love Allah.
Think about the Allah’s promises that will lead us to be optimistic person. That is why we see, people who trust and believe in Allah SWT, find peace in their lives. When they fall, they get patience in their heart and express their gratitude when get the pleasures from Allah.
Thinking of Allah’s torment, Hell, and Day of Resurrection. It is needed for human to fear Allah by protecting the heart from’ ujub, arrogance, pride and hurt others.
Always thing about how much our obedience and deeds to attain Allah’s pleasures. Always review our deeds so we can cover which part is less and which part needs to recover thus make us have the feeling of want to worship always. "Worship (ibadah) is the only way how to get closer to Allah." The way we worship must be based on our knowledge.

Ibn Jarir al-Tabari once quoted-"In the worship of a believer, he must achieved status of godly servant(insan rabbani) " How to achieve the degree of godly servant;

1-Faqih (know)and understand Islam very well

2-Alim-have knowledge in our field eg. engineering

3-Basir bissiasah-be know the environment and community

4-Basir bitadbir-able to organize our lives and time to be more systematic.

6 - To perform all the community business thru community service. Be benefitor to the community.

Some motivation and expression by the ulama:

1- Imam Syafii, “ who do not learn and seek knowledge since young age, do four takbeer (of death) for him. Muslim youth must have knowledge and piety, that will makes life valuable.

Congratulations and welcome to all students especially new intake 2011/2012. We believe that long-semester break already enough for us to relax our mind and soul and now its time to gain back the knowledge in this university.

For new students, we believe that the excitement to study here can give you panic. We, have the solution on how we as IIUM students survive here. Make sure that to always renew your intention to study here for the sake of Allah.

" 'Umar b. al-Khattab narrated that the Prophet (S) said: Deeds are [a result] only of the intentions [of the actor], and an individual is [rewarded] only according to that which he intends. Therefore, whosoever has emigrated for the sake of Allah and His messenger, then his emigration was for Allah and His messenger..."

[Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim]

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘Verily, I am commanded to worship Allah (alone) by obeying Him and doing religious deeds sincerely for His sake only.”

[Surah az-Zumar : 11]

HOW TO SURVIVE IN UNIVERSITY

This is how we do the in International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)

Develop positive attitude- Always keep in touch with Allah as He is the only one who give us opportunity to live and to gain knowledge.
Intention- Always renew your intention, for what and who? For the sake of Allah.
Train early- Do not try to suspend the work or tutorial given by Lecturers.
Attend all the class- Try not to skip your class especially in heavy subjects.
Study with professor- Try to come to your lecturer if any question lingering your mind.
Form your study group- Easy your learning by discussing each other.
Establish regular study habits- Maintain your study, manage your time. Sleep less, Study more.
Ask for help- ask your senior as they can give you instruction what to do next base on their experiences.
Never give up- Keep trying man!!! Do not rapidly relented when your grades turns to something you not aspected and learn from failure.
Go to Kuliyah Tazkiyatun-nafs (remedy for heart)- Keep in touch with religious program to prevent our heart from being used by 'nafs' and 'shaitan'. Search the Islamic Knowledge as IIUM provides many religious classes for it's students.
Take the benefits from the scholars- Make a relation and ask him/her to share their expertise in various field of studies from Engineering to Revealed knowledge.
Find good friends- Strengthening social networks and Islamic Brotherhood - live up the islamic culture, peace and mutual respect.
Manage your money- smart money spending and saving. Invest some of your money to buy books and no to unnecessary things.
Involved in every community services - joined da'awah organizations, carry out the ma'ruf and prevent the munkar.

Conclusion

Below are some of the importance why we must seek knowledge

“It is only those who have knowledge amongst His slaves that fear Allah.”

[Surah Al-Fatir (35): 28]

"Seek knowledge, because seeking it for the sake of Allah is a worship. And knowing it makes you more God-fearing; and searching for it is jihad, teaching it to those who do not know is charity, reviewing and learning it more is like tasbeeh. Through knowledge Allah will be known and worshipped. With the knowledge Allah will elevate people and make them leaders and imams, who will in turn guide other people."

[Fatawa Ibn Taymiyah vol.10, p.39]

"Whoever treads on a path in search of Islamic knowledge, Allah will ease the way to Paradise for him. The angels will lower their wings, pleased with this seeker of knowledge, and everyone in the heavens and on earth will ask forgiveness for the knowledgeable person, even the fish in the deepest of waters will ask for his forgiveness”

[Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi no.2835-sahih hadith]

Lose Yourself in Ramadan

“Ramadan is magic. It can change my whole life in an instance” says a friend of mine to me. ‘Magic’ he says. Nice choice of word yeah. Ramadan is ‘magic’ only for those who nurture and the thirst of 11 months waiting is only quenched upon Ramadan’s arrival. You will never wait for it to come to your door step and knock on your door, but your door is already open and you’re more than ready to welcome it with open arms. Ramadan is magic because of the Quran.

The majestic Quran and the month of Ramadan

The Quran loves Ramadan and Ramadan loves the Quran. The two of them are beloved friends, no, they are ‘lovers’. Lets understand why the Quran is important first then what it has to do with the Quran in Ramdan. Allah has proven their ‘love’ to each other in the Quran:

“The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.” (Al-Baqarah: 185)

For those who read the Quran while fasts combines two powerful entities, Ramadan and the glorious Quran. So, those persons therefore will live this holy month with the Noble book and following what Allah has said. What Allah has said? The Quran is a reflection and reminder to us:

“[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.” (Sad: 29)

But why sometimes or most of the time we read the Quran but we feel nothing? Let’s reflect from this verse:

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?” (Muhammad: 24)

It is either between we don’t understand the message or we haven’t at all tried to understand. The other possibility is Allah does not want us to understand, that is the most feared thing in life. The thing ‘lack’ in our hearts is preventing ‘light’ from coming into our hearts. Erase that ‘lacks’ and ‘light’ will enter.

So try to understand the Quran because Allah is the one who issued it:

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah , they would have found within it much contradiction.” (An-Nisa’: 42)

Both the Quran and Ramadan are two sacred entities, for that reason, the prophet used to study the Quran with Gabriel as his partner. Even Imam Syafie will focus more on the Quran during this magical month.

In Ramadan, the Quran has its noble taste and flavour. It offers exceptional inspiration and distinct rationales. Try to analyze this hadith:

It is narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (radhiallahu `anhu) that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam) said, “Indeed this Qur’aan is the banquet of Allaah so learn as much as you can from the banquet of Allaah. Indeed this Qur’aan is the strong rope of Allaah and it is the clear guidance and it is a beautiful cure, a protection for those who cling to it and a salvation for those who follow it. Nothing is bent or corrupted except that the Qur’aan rectifies it, nor deviated but that it reprimands them. Its marvels do not fade nor is the sweetness of it decreased by the frequency of those who recite it.

So recite it, for indeed Allaah will bestow upon you ten times the single reward for your recitation of each letter. I do not say for Alif, Laam, Meem is a letter but Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter and Meem is a letter.”[1]

Take note of the bolded part of the hadith above “So recite it, for indeed Allaah will bestow upon you ten times the single reward for your recitation of each letter. I do not say for Alif, Laam, Meem is a letter but Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter and Meem is a letter.”

Allah will bestow to us 10 times rewards of a single letter. We are urged to finish all 30 juz of the Quran in a month. How many letters are there in the Quran?

According to the Tafseer of surah Al-Fatihah compiled by Abu Rumaysah, it is written there “Al-Fatihah consists of twenty-five words and one hundred and thirteen letters.” The letters in Al-fatihah alone is 113 letters. 113 multiply by gets 1130. You will get 1130 rewards by reciting Al-fatihah. And during Ramadan, the obligatory deed is rewarded seven times. Can you imagine how many rewards have you got by just praying a single rakaat in subuh prayer? 1130 X 7 = 7910. You got 7910 rewards in a single rakaat!

How about you calculate if you manage to finish the whole Quran in one month, how many rewards have you got? Then you understand and practice what you’ve understood in your daily lives. How many rewards have you got? This is why the Quran in Ramadan gives a special flavour!

Misconceptions on Ramadan

But how do the Muslims at large welcome Ramadan? In the world filled with darkness, majority of Muslims do not feel the enchantment, thrill and excitement of this month. To them, Ramadan is a month of fasting, a month of eating and a month of business. These are misconceptions in understanding Ramadan.

A month of fasting?

These people will treat Ramadan as a month of fasting. It is stressed here that Ramadan is not a month of fasting only. If Ramadan is a month of fasting, after people break their fasts, they will continue on smoking with the excuse of ‘I’ve finished fasting’. But because of Ramadan is not a month of fasting only, they will try to refrain themselves from smoking.

When you give advice to utilise Ramadan to the fullest, some will claim “What do I care? My life is my life! Your life is yours!” and keep on doing their sin night and day. Who says it is not your problem? Entering heaven or hell is not your problem? So you want to enter hell then? Or you were actually longing for the wrath of hell? It is your problem and from this problem Allah will ask you for what you’ve done.

So no wonder why Imam Malik will preoccupy himself with the Quran during Ramadan. This is the secret ingredient.

A month of eating?

If Ramadan is a month of eating, then when you make sahur, you will eat like mad and when you break you’re fast, you will eat like someone who hasn’t eaten for a year. The expenditures during Ramadan is more although half the day you fast because during sahur and iftar, you buy all the things available at the Bazaar Ramadan. After you are so stuffed all the food in your stomach, you can’t even stand up back again! Your tarawikh, tadarus and Qiamullail is burnt like that. What a waste!

A month of business?

It is true that during Ramadan, everything is booming! You get double the money during Ramadan compared to before especially in business related to foods, drinks and clothing. If foods and drinks may be reasonable because people are eating mad! What about clothing?

Why clothing? Because people are rushing to get new clothes during Ramadan or in Malay we call them ‘baju raya’ prior for the upcoming Eidul Fitr. I personally hate the idea of ‘baju raya’, the Malay cultures perceives this as something obligatory. During my past experience of Eidul Fitr, many of my friends will ask me “Have you bought your new baju raya?” You know what I answer them? “It has been 5 years since my last baju raya. Now I only have baju Ramadan!”

Each time before Ramadan, I will buy a new baju Raihan as the intention of welcoming Ramadan!

Conclusion: Lose yourself in Ramadan

The answer to the question of “how to fully utilize Ramadan?” is so simple. My answer in my own words will be “Lose myself in Ramadan.”

The methodology of “losing myself in Ramadan” is to understand the “majestic Quran” I’ve shared above. Everything revolves around the Quran. If you pray, you need the Quran. If you recite, you need the Quran. If you want to give lectures, you need the Quran.

“If you had one shot, one opportunity, your one moment,
to seize everything you ever wanted,
would you capture it or just let it slip?

So you better lose yourself in the Ramadan,
the moment, you own it,
you better never let it go,
because you only got one shot, do not
miss your chance to glow,
this opportunity comes once in a lifetime.”

We never know what may become of us although Ramadan is no very near. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Let us prepare for Ramadan to step on our door step. Let us open the door to our hearts and get ready for Ramadan!

Ramadhan, preparation on progress?

Checklist?

Brothers and Sisters Ramadhan is only a month away. Are we prepared? We know from Sunnah that the Sahabah would prepare 6 months before Ramadan. InsyaAllah lets remind each other about this blessed month of Ramadhan.

A lot of us yearn to prepare for Ramadhan, but we have no idea how to start. Below are a few tips to insyaAllah help prepare our minds and hearts for this upcoming Month of Mercy.

1. Making the Intention

Simple to do and has a powerful impact. Maybe you want to prepare for Ramadan, but between study, work, family, and any other activities, you just have no idea how to fit in ‘Preparing for Ramadhan’ time. Instead of making ‘preparing for Ramadhan’ something separate from your daily activities, MAKE your daily activities a means of preparation for Ramadhan.

For example, perhaps your mom asked you to pick up your brother from school on the day you finally had time to read a few extra pages of Qur’an. Instead of feeling upset and feeling like you have lost a great preparation for Ramadan opportunity, make the intention that you are picking up your brother to please Allah SWT and prepare for Ramadan by obeying your mother, helping your family members, building ties of kinship… and the list continues.

The point is that preparing for Ramadhan does not have to be some magnificent, enormous, extra-special thing that needs to be done at a certain time of the day. Many of your daily actions can be turned into Ramadhan preparation actions with a sincere intention, insyaAllah.

2. Do these easy-to-reap-reward actions:

Asking Allah to forgive your brothers and sisters. “Whoever seeks forgiveness for believing men and believing woman, Allah will write for him a good deed for each believing man and believing woman.” [at-Tabarani, classed as hasan by al-Albani]

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (r.a) said “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Whoever says subhanAllahi wa bi hamdih (praise and glory be to Allah) 100 times, morning and evening, his sins will be erased even if they are like the foam on the sea.” Narrated by al-Bukhari, 6042; Muslim 2691

If a person says “SubhanAllah” (glory be to Allah) 100 times, a thousand good deeds are recorded for him and a thousand bad deeds are wiped away. Narrated by Muslim 2073

Remember Allah when you go shopping : “Whoever enters a market and says: ‘Laa ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyi wa yumeetu wa huwa hayyun laa yamoot, bi yadihil khair, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shayin qadeer’[there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah, alone without partner, to Him belongs dominion and praise, He causes life and death and He is the Living and does not die. In His Hand is all the good, and He is over all things competent]Allah will write for him/her a million good deeds and erase a million bad deeds and raise him a million levels.” [at-Tirmidhi, classed as hasan by al-Albani]

3. Up your worship

To help condition your heart for this blessed month, intensify your worship before Ramadhan begins. Just a small, consistent amount is enough. The Prophet, peace be upon him told us:

“The deeds most loved by Allah are those done regularly, even if they are small.”

For example, if I always pray 2 rakats of sunnah after isyak, from this day until Ramadan begins- and even through Ramadan, let me make the intention that I will now pray 2 extra rakaats of sunnah after isyak. And every time I pray these extra 2 rakaats, which are more than what I normally pray, let me remember that I am doing these with the intention of asking Allah to help me be prepared to strive and exert my utmost effort during Ramadhan.

4. Make a duaa list today

This is THE MONTH to ask for EVERYTHING, both related to this life and the Next. Let us not wait until the last 10 nights to make special duaas, and then once Eid passes realize that we had completely forgotten about fifty other things we needed to make duaa for. Let us start making our lists now, and add to it as more things come our way. Insha’Allah this should help us remember to make constant duaa in this month where duaa is accepted, and help our hearts pour out to the One Who can make those duaas happen, subhanahu wa ta’ala.

5. Write out your objectives for Ramadan

Praying all of your fard prayers? Praying all of your sunnahs? Reading the entire Qur’an? Giving RM1 charity a day? Making i'tikaaf in the masjid? Leaving one serious sin that you’ve been trying to get away from for some time now? Sincerely turning completely back to Allah?

Write out a list, put them somewhere you will see them, and make duaa for your success in fulfilling these objectives.

6. Make a plan!

Look at your objectives, and try to make a plan on how to actualize those objectives in this month.

For example, perhaps you are really struggling to pray your sunnah prayers. In this month, realize the enormity of the ajr of praying the sunnah prayers… think that perhaps these sunnahs will be the deeds that will be so heavy on your scale of good deeds when you are intense need of them- on yowm al-qiyamah (day of judgement). Therefore, fight to keep doing them all throughout Ramadan. If you can’t pray your 2 rakats after zuhur right away, make sure to do them as soon as you get a chance.

Thus, your plan might look something like this:

Objective: Pray all of my fard prayers.

Method: Envision myself on the day of judgment seeing the insyaAllah weight of praying my sunnah consistently during this month. Make sure to pray sunnah solah immediately after solah. If I cannot, do it as soon as the opportunity arises… don’t let myself put it off!

Another example is that of finishing the Qur’an [with Understanding]:

Objective: Finishing the entire Qur’an in this month.

Method: Read 4 pages of the Qur’an after every salah. Make sure you understand it. 5 prayers X 4 pages = 20 pages. 20 pages= about 1 juz. 1 juz X 30= the entire Qur’an.

Conclusion

So many Muslims have passed away since last month. So many people have not made it to Ramadhan this year. Last year was their very last Ramadhan. Will you make it to this Ramadhan? Will this be your last Ramadhan?

Aim to strive in this Ramadhan. With a very small amount of effort, such as just making a small intention, or adding a few extra acts of worship, we pray that Allah will help our hearts soften and honor us with making it easy to turn to Him and open up to Him.

May Allah make us of the successful in Ramadhan, and make it easy for us to turn to Him completely and perpetually. Ameen.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TAUBAH AND ISTIGHFAR

According to Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah (751H), there are two types of Istighfar;

Istaghfar that is mentioned alone.
Istaghfar that is mentioned with Taubah.

The Istaghfar that is mentioned alone is found in the words of Nuh (peace and blessings be upon him):

“I said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; ‘He will send rain to you in abundance

[Nuh: 10-11]

and in the words of Salih (peace and blessings be upon him) :

“Why seek you not the Forgiveness of Allah, that you may receive mercy?”

[An-Naml 46]

Allah also said:

“…and ask Allah for His Forgiveness. Truly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.“

[Al-Baqarah: 199]

“And Allah would not punish them while you (Muhammad) are amongst them, nor will He punish them while they seek (Allah’s) Forgiveness.”

[Al-Anfal 33]

Istaghfar mentioned with Taubah is found in the following verses from the Most Merciful’s speech.

“Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding Grace to every owner of grace”

[Hud: 3]

“Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain.”

[Hud: 52]

Also Prophet Salih’s words to his people have Taubah and Istaghfar mentioned together:

“He brought you forth from the earth and settled you therein, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance.”

[Hud: 61]

and Shuaib’s speech as well has these two actions joined together.

“And ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn unto Him in repentance. Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving.”

[Hud: 90]

Al-Istaghfar is like Taubah and in reality it is. Contained in Istaghfar is the request of Allah’s forgiveness. Allah’s forgiveness is the removal of the sin, its affect and protection from the sin’s harm…

Al-Istaghfar contains At-Taubah and vice versa. Both of these actions are included in each other. Whenever both of these words are mentioned together Al-Istaghfar is protection from the consequence of any previous evil. At-Taubah on the other hand is to return to Allah obediently and the search of His protection from the sin’s effect in the future.

There are two sins. The sin that was committed. Hence a person does Al-Istaghfar- seeking protection from its harm and evil. And then there is the second sin which is the one that is feared to occur in the future.

At-Taubah is the resolution to avoid the sin and penitence to Allah. Penitence to Allah holds two things. The first is the act of returning to Allah in order to be protected from the result of previous sin and evil. The second thing held in At-Taubah is the search for protection against evil that might befall you in the future resulting from the evil of yourself and deeds.

The sinner is like a driver who takes a road that leads to his death. That road doesn’t take him where he intended to go. He is ordered to take alternative route and travel the road that leads to his safety. That alternative route takes him where he wanted to go and as a result he is successful.

Therefore in this instance there are two things that are necessary;

Separation from something
Recourse to a different way

At-Taubah is the recourse and Al-Istaghfar is the separation. Whenever these words are mentioned separately one is included in the other. Allah knows best, but that’s why He said,

“And ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn unto Him in repentance“

[Hud: 90]

This is the recourse to the path of truth after separation from the path of falsehood.

In conclusion, Al-Istaghfar is from the chapter of the removal of harm. And At-Taubah is from the chapter of requesting a good outcome. Therefore Al-Maghfirah is protection against sin’s evil and At-Taubah is the obtainment of good after the protection is sought. Each one is included in the other when mentioned alone. Allah knows best.

TAQWA: The ‘Boring’ Weekly Call

FRIDAY is the most exhausting day of the week. Even though I do not have classes on this day, sleeping half a day will always be my top priority. Study? Rarely. Breakfast? Hardly any. Just sleep and sleep. Exhausted I guess.

When the clock strikes 1 pm, I would get ready for prayer, Friday prayer of course. Walk to the IIUM Masjid and wait for the first azan. After an interval for about 10 minutes, the khatib gives salaam and then the second azan is heard.

The azans normally sounds beautiful like a lullaby making the Friday jamaah feel so sleepy. When the azan is over, the khatib starts his khutbah. As the khatib starts with:

“O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].” (Ali-Imran: 102)

I witness in front of my eyes, most of the guys, head down! Their head goes up and down not indicating that they understand what the khatib is saying, but because they doze off to dreamland!

Why are they sleeping? Why are we (men) dozing off? If the purpose of Friday prayer is a place for men to ‘rest’ then, sleeping will be quite acceptable.

But Friday prayer is a weekly call for TAQWA. Is this call a ‘boring’ call?

“It’s so BORING! Don’t you get that?”

Sleeping has been a normal phenomenon during Friday prayer. Be it in any part of the world especially Malaysia. Why are we asleep during khutbah?

(1) I’m tired.

(2) Today is a hot day. Dehydration.

(3) The khatib is not good. I can’t even hear his voice.

(4) I already know what he talked about.

Guys out there, I’m asking you, familiar with these excuses? Have you ever used them to escape from being guilty?

Now ask yourselves, do you think Allah will ever accept your excuses? Will Allah be satisfied?

Ali-Imran: 102

Let’s explore a little bit of Tafseer. I did some research in various Tafseers from many renowned scholars. I came out with a conclusion that the message hidden behind the words of verse Ali-Imran: 102are very powerful in meaning. But we always took it for granted! This verse is said every time in the beginning of a khutbah . But we are unaware of its value. We surely are ignorant!

O you who have believed:

Meaning that this verse is exclusively for believers only.

fear Allah as He should be feared:

IbnMasood says: “To obey Him and not to disobey Him, to remember Him and not to forget Him, to thank Him and not to be ungrateful.”[1]

Ibn Abbas: “We have to strive in Allah’s path as we should. Do not care of anyone criticizing our deeds and to establish justice even though against our own kin.”[2]

Syed Qutb: “Fear Allah as He is the one who is supposed to be feared without any limitations. Let our hearts strive beyond our limits. As long as the heart is absorbed in the pursuit of TAQWA, we will discover new horizons and experience new yearnings.”[3]

do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]:

Ibn Abbas: “They preserve Allah in both health and sickness so that they are able to die in that state.”

Syed Qutb: “This is the depth of Iman, this is the fear of Allah, which reaches its climax when it dies due to Allah. This is the constant TAQWA and awareness that does not falter or lapse for a single moment.”

What I can pin point here is that; excuses can be given but should not be given because excuses will not be accepted.

If you sleep because you are tired or you’re in your so called dehydration, remember what Ibn Abbas says “They preserve Allah in both health and sickness so that they are able to die in that state.”

If the khatibis not a good speaker and he fails to grab attention, let us try our very best to stay alert and take note of what he is saying. In addition, Syed Qutb says “Let our hearts strive beyond our limits”, strive our best not to sleep but try to give attention.

If you are well-versed to the topic the khatibis talking, remember what Syed Qutb says “This is the constant TAQWA and awareness that does not falter or lapse for a single moment.”Someone who owns a constant command of TAQWA, even though you are a book author, lecturer, leader or a scholar, do not lapse for a single moment because we are in pursuit of TAQWA!

Sleeping is not a problem lah!

You may argue with me, “It’s not like by listening the khutbah, TAQWA will magically control our body and soul, so it’s ok to sleep then.” This is my response for those who love to debate with me with this question.

Sleeping is a blessing in disguise. We sleep to recharge our weak body. But why we have to sleep during khutbah? The sunnah of the prophet is to sleep before Zuhr prayer:

“Take a nap, for the shayaateen do not take naps.”[4]

So in other words, sleep before Friday prayer, not during khutbah! Is it so difficult to make sleeping before Zuhr prayer a habit?

If we say we don’t have the time to sleep before Zuhr because of work or etc, still it is not an excuse that allows you to sleep during khutbah. If you accidently sleep and you really didn’t mean to, then it may be acceptable because it is out of your control. But before you ‘accidently sleep’, you need to take all the preventive measures not to sleep. I used to sleep while sitting in the interval between the first and second azan and when the second azan is heard; I get up and refresh my wudu’. Seriously I feel so energetic after that! If I can do it, so do you!

The advice given by the khatib is always useful for us. If we sleep, it is as if showing that we are ignorant and hate people giving advice to us. We are diverting the light for entering our dark heart. We have forgotten what Allah has said in the Quran:

“Therefore remind (men), for of use is the reminder” Al-A’la: 9

And in another verse:

“Remind them, for you are but a reminder” Al-Ghashiyah: 21

Reminder or advice comes and goes, but we don’t change. This is a waste of life.

Conclusion: Change!

I’m not saying that I have not even once slept during khutbah, the reason why I shared with you is because this is what I’ve felt every single time I slept during khutbah, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally.

I am calling for you guys to make a change. Let us make a change. Don’t perceive this as a small tiny thing for what tiny if gathered will become enormous. Don’t change there and then but change gradually. Plan our change so that it is a permanent change.

Try not to sleep starting from today!

Praise to Allah as He is the one that brings His Guidance to us to live in such a peaceful life. Alhamdulillah. This article is interesting when it comes to how we as a Muslim have to advocate Islam in the our community. It was written by Musa Odeh, United States national. He won $500 scholarship of TMO foundation scholarship essay contest on the subject “Journalism: An Islamic Perspective.” The TMO Foundation is a non-profit organization serving American Muslims through research, scholarships, and journalism.

It was the morning of September 11, 2001. Hijackers overtook a commercial plane and smashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. As the world watched the building diminish and burn to the ground, a second airplane collided into the south tower like a guided missile in a war zone. It took two hours, and the World Trade Center was no more. The attacks of September 11th would be remembered forever as the worst attack on U.S. soil. The World Trade Center would never be the same again. The United States would never be the same again. The world would never be the same again. Islam would never be the same again.

My life changed on September 11th as the U.S. launched a “War on Terrorism.” The media began to portray Islam as an enemy towards mankind, especially here in the West. Islam was the new face of the public enemy, and this was not justified. False portrayals of Muslims as terrorists forced me to take action. The word “terrorism” has become a synonym to “Islam.”

I have taken it upon myself to prove otherwise. I feel it is my obligation to show the other side of the story. It is my calling to battle skewed reports and unbalanced coverage of Muslims in the media. It is my job to shed light on the truth. In a time of war and hate crimes against Muslims, it is I who shall show the world the truth–by fighting and battling–because in the end, the pen is mightier than the sword.

When I was younger, my mother used to tell me to pick my battles and choose them wisely. If something was not a good idea to pursue, she would tell me, “This is not your fight. Let it go.” She also taught me to never start a fight I couldn’t finish. I never really understood her advice until today. Showing the world the truth and reporting the facts is my fight. It is a battle I wisely choose to fight and it is definitely my struggle. This is a fight I will not back down from and I am determined to stand tall because I cannot be defeated in this fight.

I chose to be a journalist because I want to be an advocate for Islam and show the true meaning of the religion from a broad perspective. Islam has been covered in the media through a tainted and biased lens and I feel that journalism chose me, to find the stories that dig deeper into human interest and show the truth of Islam and its followers. When I watch the news, I feel so much more strongly about this cause. I feel it is my duty to speak on behalf of the oppressed Muslims who are portrayed as monsters, the law abiding, hard working Muslims who are looked down upon because of their faith.

I want to become a journalist because I enjoy learning and interacting with people. I would write and report stories that show people something they did not know before reading my piece. It is my goal to report the story that nobody else has ever thought of. The story is not about me, it’s about the people I am interviewing. The story is also about the communities I am working for. I want to publicize the stories of the little people, who without me would not have had their story told to the world or their voices heard. Helping people and communities is all the compensation and reward I need for being a journalist. My long term goal is to win a Pulitzer Prize for the phenomenal work I have done to help people tell their stories and to allow their voices to be heard.

By definition, a journalist is someone who gathers or broadcasts news to the public. In all honesty, I feel there is no correct or accurate definition of the word “journalist.” My ultimate goal is to find a job as a reporter and/or writer for the mainstream media of the U.S. I want to bring out the truth and report stories that show the actual face of Islam and its followers. For example, I would love to cover Muslims in the Dearborn area and show the world how Muslims live on a day to day basis, by showing that they have close family ties and work every day jobs. It is my hope that the biased world would be able to relate and the “terrorist” image would begin to fade away. I want to be the reporter who shows what Muslim life is actually like. Contrary to the western mentality of Muslims sitting around in “madrasas” all day plotting their next act of evil; when in reality, those thoughts are non-existent.

As a Muslim who tries his best to live his life by Islam, I feel that it is my responsibility and obligation to portray Islam in a positive light. I do that through my interactions with people on a daily basis by showing how Muslims deal with others in a kind and respectful manner. Islam was first spread by merchants who went to faraway lands that had never heard of Islam. It is through their positive interactions with non-Muslim merchants and citizens that they influenced the communities they stumbled upon.

When the followers of other religions witnessed the respectful, honest and fair ways of the Muslims they began to inquire about this religion. The kindness of Islam draws people closer and closer to the religion. Muslim merchants’ mannerisms were exemplary, to the point that it piqued people’s interest and motivated them to inquire about the religion. That helped the spread of Islam. Muslim merchants led by example and became ambassadors of Islam– as I plan to do in my daily works as a Muslim journalist—God willing.

Becoming a journalist is hard enough, but becoming a Muslim journalist is ten times harder. A Muslim journalist must be perfect in every aspect of his job because his actions are already magnified from day one. As a Muslim journalist, one will be criticized and ridiculed because of the religion he/she chooses to follow. This forces the Muslim journalist to have thick skin and be flawless in the work of reporting, as well as extremely accurate with facts and sources. A hiccup for a Muslim journalist is viewed as a heart attack to the rest of the world. All eyes are on a Muslim when entering the world of journalism as a Muslim.

The biggest reason Muslims are hated in the eyes of the United States public is because of their ignorance which led them to learn the fear of Islam. The best and most effective way to counter “Islamophobia” is by educating the public about the true essence of Islam. It is the journalist’s job to be objective and tell the facts. Educating the world about Islam and its followers will result in the world beginning to view the religion in a new light.

Islam teaches its followers to respect all religions and that should be included in some coverage. Other coverage could detail stories of the Prophet Muhammed (s) and how he once passed a Bible on the ground and how he stopped to pick it up, teaching his companions that we should respect “their” book. He respected the book and the people who follow it. Islam also preaches being nice to your neighbors. Why not find a story of a Christian family having nothing but good things to say about a neighboring Muslim household whom they have lived next to for 20 years?

Little things can change the way the public views Islam, but as a Muslim journalist, my first job is to educate the public about Islam in direct and indirect ways. One can counter ignorance by educating. One can counter stereotypes by disproving them and showing they are not true. We can counter “Islamophobia” by showing the public there is nothing to fear besides the biases of one nation.

Finally, I have not chosen journalism. Journalism has chosen me. I feel that I have been chosen to make a difference in this world and I will rise to the occasion. I will use my skill in writing and my outspoken ways to serve Islam as journalist. I ask the Almighty to grant me success in doing so.

Our view

Conclusion that can be made is, Journalist jobscope is quite similar to Da'ie (preacher). All they do is to promote something that can benefits people. Furthermore, Muslim Journalist must have their own principe to keep an eye on Islam as muslim nowadays only Islam in their names but no longer practice the Islamic way of life. That is why, journalist one of the defender of Islam to show the people the beauty of Islam besides showing the his/her Islamic qudwah (example) to the society. Allahua'lam.

Lunar eclipse is one of the Sunnatullah. Allah is Almighty

Muslims recognize that everything in the heavens and on earth is created and sustained by the Lord of the universe, Allah Almighty. Throughout the Qur'an, people are encouraged to look around them, observe and reflect on the beauties and wonders of the natural world - as signs of Allah's majesty.

"Allah is He, who created the sun, the moon, and the stars -- (all) governed by laws under His commandment." Qur'an 7:54

"It is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. All (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its orbit." Qur'an 21:33

"The sun and the moon follow courses exactly computed." Qur'an 55:05

In remembrance and gratefulness for all of His favors, Muslims all over the world bow down in prayer five times each day. At a time of a solar or lunar eclipse, there is a recommended prayer (salatul-kusuf) that is performed by the Muslim community in congregation.

>>The Prophet's Tradition (peace be upon him)

During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse on the day that his son Ibrahim died. Some superstitious people said that the sun eclipsed because of the young child's death and the Prophet's sadness on that day.

The Prophet corrected their understanding:

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba: On the day of Ibrahim's death, the sun eclipsed and the people said that the eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear."

>>Reasons that Muslims should be humble before Allah during an eclipse

An eclipse is a sign of the majesty and power of Allah.

Narrated Abu Masud: The Prophet said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them, stand up and pray."

An eclipse can cause people to become frightened. When frightened, Muslims turn to Allah for patience and perseverance.

Narrated Abu Bakr: Allah's Apostle said: "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah and they do not eclipse because of the death of someone, but Allah frightens His devotees with them."

An eclipse is a reminder of the Day of Judgment.

Narrated Abu Musa: The sun eclipsed and the Prophet got up, being afraid that it might be the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment). He went to the Mosque and offered a prayer with the longest Qiyam, bowing and prostration that I had ever seen him doing. Then he said, "These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of somebody, but Allah makes His worshipers afraid by them. So when you see anything thereof, proceed to remember Allah, invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness."

>>How the Prayer is Performed

The eclipse prayer is offered in congregation.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: When the sun eclipsed in the life-time of Allah's Apostle an announcement was made that a prayer was to be offered in congregation.
The eclipse prayer is two rakats (cycles of prayer).

Narrated Abu Bakr: In the life-time of the Prophet the sun eclipsed and then he offered a two Rakat prayer.

Each rakat of the eclipse prayer has two bowings and two prostrations (for a total of four).

Narrated Aisha: The Prophet led us and performed four bowings in two Rakat during the solar eclipse, and the first Raka was longer.

Narrated 'Aisha: In the life-time of Allah's Apostle, the sun eclipsed, so he led the people in prayer, and stood up and performed a long Qiyam, then bowed for a long while. He stood up again and performed a long Qiyam but this time the period of standing was shorter than the first. He bowed again for a long time but shorter than the first one, then he prostrated and prolonged the prostration. He did the same in the second Raka as he did in the first and then finished the prayer; by then the sun (eclipse) had cleared. He delivered the Khutba (sermon) and after praising and glorifying Allah he said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse on the death or life of anyone. So when you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say Takbir, pray and give Sadaqa (charity)."

In modern times, superstitions and fear surrounding solar and lunar eclipses have diminished. However, Muslims continue the tradition of praying during an eclipse, as a reminder that Allah Alone has power over all things, in the heavens and on earth.

The red color while moon eclipse (unbra) is due to the emission of sunlight to earth's atmosphere.

This is how an eclipse happens. The moon crosses our Earth's shadow. The moon will turn red/orange when it hits the Umbra (darker) part of the shadow. No visible eclipse when the Moon is in the Penumbra shadow of Earth.

Why we cannot see eclipse when the moon is full? Moon's orbit will slant over 5 degrees on Earth's orbits when surrounding the sun (eclipstic line) Moon will cross over elipstic line twice a year. That's why, it cannot cross over the earth then, it will be no moon eclipse

On the 16^th of June 2011, we will be able to observe a total lunar eclipse starting from 1:25 a.m. to 7:01 a.m. In conjuction with Total Lunar Eclipse, National Space Agency (ANGKASA) and National Mosque will be organizing a Total Lunar Eclipse Observation Program at the Main Entrance of National Mosque (nearby the expo site) on 16 June 2011 from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m..

Public are invited to observe the phenomena through a few of telescopes that will be setup during the event. You also can bring your own telescope in this program.

The first 1000 visitors attending the program will be given a tin of Eclipse Mints, contribution by The Wrigley Company (M) Sdn. Bhd..

Alhamdulillah, telah berlangsung siri ke-2 Kuliah Tazkiyatun Nafs (KTN) di Surau Kulliyyah Kejuruteraan dengan membawa tajuk kaitan antara surah Al-Alaq, Al-Muzammil dan Al-Muddatsir dari sudut fikrah dan dakwah. Penting sebagai seorang pendakwah untuk melengkapkan fikrah Islamiah dalam membentuk masyarakat yang faham akan cara hidup sebenar.

Dalam konsep asas berdakwah, Al-fadhil Ustaz ada mengatakan bahawa manusia tidak boleh menyatukan hati-hati manusia kecuali dengan izinNya dan dengan cara jalan yang Allah redhai iaitu Islam. Dalam dakwah membawa hati-hati manusia ke jalanNya, seorang pendakwah tidak boleh lari daripada landasan yang ditetapkan oleh al-Quran dan al-Sunnah. Selain itu perlu diingatkan bahawa Tarbiyah diri sebelum kita mentarbiyah orang lain selari dengan ajaran Rasulullah.

Maha suci Allah yang menurunkan ayat-ayat hebat seperti ini. Ketiga-tiga surah mempunyai kaitan antara satu sama lain. Dalam ayat "Qum Faanzir"-(QS 73:2) misalnya, Allah menyuruh manusia supaya saling mengingati antara satu sama lain dan memberi peringatan akan azab Allah yang pedih. Ayat ini menjadi contoh supaya kita mengikut jejak langkah nabi sebagai peng'islah' masyarakat untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Islam yang Syumul.

Sebagai persediaan kita untuk menjadi seorang pendakwah, Allah telah memberikan kita suatu petunjuk di dalam ayat pertama surah al-Alaq, "Iqra bismirabbikallazi khalaq" yakni bacalah dengan nama tuhan kamu yang menciptakan. Maklum bahawa, ayat pertama diturunkan kepada nabi adalah 'Iqra'-bacalah, namun sebagai seorang daie-pendakwah, selain dari membaca perlu juga untuk mempelajari apa yang kita baca kemudian mengamalkan setiap ilmu hasil daripada pembacaan. Oleh itu perbanyakkan membaca buku-buku fikrah seperti 'Maza yakni intimai al-Islam'-Dr Fathi Yakan, 'Maalim fittariq'-As-Syahid Sayid Qutb, 'Miftah darussaadah'-Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah, 'Kepentingan Harakah Islam'-Prof Yusuf al-Qaradhawi. dan banyak lagi. Ingat, membina fikrah itu penting!

Banyak ayat-ayat di dalamnya mengandungi pelbagai rahsia kekuatan untuk menjadi seorang pendakwah. Sebagai seorang pendakwah, perlu disini ditekankan tentang menjadi seorang yang luar biasa. Inilah kekuatan seorang Pendakwah. Antaranya, "Qumillaila illa Qalila"-(QS 73:2) yakni bangunlah Tahajjud-Qiamullail kecuali golongan yang sedikit. Kemudian ayat keempat menyebut lagi-"Warattilil qur'ana tartila"-yakni bacalah al-Quran dengan tartil. Perlu untuk seorang pendakwah memperbaiki bacaan dengan makhraj dan tajweed yang betul kerana, antara tuga para pendakwah adalah mengajarkan al-Quran kepada masyarakat awam supaya mereka lebih dekat dengan al-Quran. "Inna nashiatal lailli hiya ashaddu wat'au wa aqwamu qila"-(QS 73:6) yakni, sesungguhnya ibadah malam adalah kuat kesannya dan lebih tetap betul bacaannya. Inilah yang disebut As-Shahid Sayyid Qutb sebagai Generasi Al-Quran Bergerak dalam kitabnya Maallim fittariq-Petunjuk Sepanjang Jalan.

Pendakwah juga perlu mengajak masyarakat kearah membesarkan Allah, menjadikan tujuan kita semata-mata kerana Allah. Inilah yang dikatakan Allah-centric (setiap perkara ada kaitan dengan Sang Pencipta). Di dalam surah al-Muddatsir (QS 74:2)-"farabbaka fakabbir"-yakni 'Dan tuhanmu, ucaplah dan ingatkanlah kebesarannya'. Dengan mengingati dan mengagungi kebesaranNya, maka segala suruhan dan laranganNya mampu kita laksanakan tanpa sebarang dalih disebabkan oleh kepercayaan terhadap Janji dan Balasan Allah kepada sesiapa yang mentaatiNya.

Perkara yang tidak patut dilakukan oleh seorang pendakwah adalah memberi pendedahan kepada masyarakat tentang sempitnya Islam. Islam ini mudah. Terdapat banyak ayat-ayat di dalam al-Quran membincangkan suruhanNya dan sangat sedikit ayat-ayat yang membincangkan tentang laranganNya. Di sini, al-Fadhil Ustaz menekankan bahawa, Islam ini mudah disebabkan suruhanNya yang luas. Maknanya, segala benda yang diharuskan kecuali ada ayat yang melarangnya. Oleh itu, pendakwah ditekankan supaya meluaskan agama bukan menyempitkannya.

Dalam untuk kita menjaga perpaduan ummah, perlu di sini diingatkan kepada setiap pendakwah, menjaga ukhuwwah adalah lebih penting daripada perkara-perkara yang furu' seperti Qunut dan Tahlil. Hal ini ditekankan sekali oleh al-Fadhil Ustaz supaya menjaga perkara yang lebih utama yang boleh mengelakkan perpecahan dalam masyarakat khususnya kepada sesetengah golongan yang mendakwa hanya diri mereka benar.

Ikuti seni dakwah Nabi sebagai seorang daie. Perlu ditekankan kepada setiap Daie untuk menjaga segala pemakanan, pemakaian, ibadah, pergaulan dan sebagainya disebabkan sudah tidak ramai lagi pendakwah yang sebegini. Ini kerana, kesilapan yang kecil walaupun tidak berdosa tetapi dipandang remeh oleh setiap pendakwah boleh membawa fitnah kepada Islam itu sendiri dan mungkin boleh membawa kepada dosa. Contohnya makan berdiri, minum berdiri, membuka aurat dan sebagainya.

Akhir kalam daripada Ustaz Zuhdi, "Allah mencampakkan kemuliaan kepada orang yang melakukan kebaikan sebagaimana Allah mencampakkan dlam hati manusia kemuliaan kepada orang yang melakukan ibadah-'abid. Apalagi jika kita tojolkan sifat kebaikan dan keIslaman kita kepada orang lain."

Today is 31st May 2010. The day where the tragic incident occurs in the open sea. Nine people were shaheed (bi iznillah) and others were injured in a dawn during Israeli violence towards innocent people. Also the day where people around the world got attracted with the unhuman actions by Israeli soldiers with absurd reasons to permit the crimes. Tidak mungkin aku dapat melupakan tragedi serangan tentera Israel ke atas Mavi Marmara, 31 Mei 2010. Tidak sekali-kali! Wajah-wajah mereka yang dibunuh kejam dan brutal itu tetap segar dalam ingatan, lebih-lebih lagi tatkala melihat gambar susuk Mavi Marmara. Surely, we will return

Introduction

In 15 May 1948, it has been 63 years ago,when our Muslim brothers were expelled from their own land, raped, killed by Israel Laknatullahi 'alaih. It was estimated that about 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled, and hundreds of Palestinian villages were depopulated and destroyed. They lost their Palestine and they call this day as An-nakba-THE CATASTROPHE.

As a university student, do we alert about An-nakba? Do we feel the suffer? What is our contribution to them? How many people know about SIX-DAY WAR? How many people concern about operation CAST LEAD on 2008? There're so many things that cannot be answered when it comes to Palestine. Check it by yourselves...

When we google about An-Nakba, we can see that many of posters, pictures relate An-Nakba with KEY. The key is a symbol of their home in which they believe sooner or later, they will return to their homeland that was captured by Israel.

NURTURING 'ALIM MUJAHID

Alhamdulillah, HiMEGA 11 already ended smoothly. The program was held on 22 April to 24 April 2011, in IIUM Gombak Campus. Thanks to all committees, facilitators, participants and not to forget those who were helping us directly or indirectly to make this event meaningful. May Allah grant us His Mercy and His Guidance to all of us.

In 3 days program, mostly all the slots stressing about how we connect our works, studies, and 'ibadah towards Allah SWT. Another thing is through all the slots, participants were exposed to the importantness of being a part of tarbiyah. Apart of being a good student, they also need to know how to be a good muslim-knowing the limits beyond the Islamic rules and regulations, how to be a good da'ie (preacher), the fiqh awlawiyat and etc.

In addition, the elements of the Islamic personality was absorbed in each slot and module. It is quite important in order to inculcate an understanding that success must include the happiness in the world and the hereafter. Through the messages conveyed by various methods, it was hoped that the next generation we will be able to ward off attacks of thought and ideology that often befall the youth today.

A good student must have the sense of JIDDIYYAH (seriousness and sincerity) and ILTIZAM (commitment) not only in their studies, but also da'wa (preaching). May Allah grant us to His Jannah.

By now I guess all SPM 2011 taker already got their SPM result. Whatever result it might be, whether straight As or no As the life must goes on and you need to do something for your future. So what next ?

Here is a list what you can do next :

Enroll for matriculation/foundation programme : one of the most popular options in Malaysia.
Polytechnic: If your result was not so good, consider this option. Nevermind, I have seen many people starts their journey to Degree programme using their certificate and also diploma from Polytechnic
STPM/STAM: Go back to school for the 2-years programme, and your SPM experience will be useful in STPM/STAM.
DIPLOMA: go for 3 years programme, get your diploma in ; culinary, hospitality, nursing etc.
Get a job: If you really don’t have interest to further studies. For those who want to further studies this could be your opportunity as well to gain experience.
Get married: For those who insisting to get married, May Allah grant you a successful life with your husband/wife.

There are many more options for you out there, the most important things for you right now is to plan for your future. Irrespective your SPM result, if possible further your studies. Get more knowledge before you being employed. So, what next?

For those who are contemplating a student life in the university, the language change from Bahasa Malaysia to English could be a challenge. Others simply want to enjoy the borderless liberation of no uniform outfits, unique timetables, lavish cafeterias and modern libraries, computer labs and classrooms.

Peers and lifestyle may be factors that play a part in your education institution life. And most often, these could be the reasons why students live in vain if not choosing good peers and environment. On the other hand, you are encouraged to keep an open mind, think deeply and go for an education that fits your needs and keep the Islamic way of life in your studies. Huseyin Oruc

He is one of the prime movers of the Gaza Flotilla mission. He was born in Malatya, Turkey in 1969. He gained diplomas in Tourism Management and Public Management From Boğaziçi University. He is one of the founders of The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief, IHH, a Turkish NGO based in Istanbul.

For 8 years, he managed various international projects of IHH, such as the Banda Aceh tsunami relief effort in 2004, the Pakistan earthquake relief effort in 2005, the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza in 2010, the Haiti earthquake relief effort in 2010, the Qurbani Project 2010 in 126 countries, the Pakistan flood relief effort 2010, the Cataract Project (2007- ongoing, more than 43.000 cataract surgeries are completed) in 10 African countries etc.He is a founding Trustee of The Humanitarian Forum, UK, and founding member of UNIW (the Union of NGOs of Islamic World) on behalf of IHH. He was head of the Preparation Committee of Code of Conducts for Islamic NGOs for OIC. He is a delegate for UN and OIC on behalf of IHH. Mr. Oruc is currently deputy president of Board of Trustees.

Prof. Mattias Gardell

Prof Hans Bertil Mattias Gardell is a Swedish scholar of comparative religion. He is the current holder of the Nathan Söderblom Chair of Comparative Religion at Uppsala University, Sweden. He earned a Ph.D. in the history of religions at Stockholm University in 1995 and became a docent in 1999. He has been working at the Department of Comparative Religion and the Centre for Research in International Migration and Ethnic Relations at Stockholm University. He has also lived and studied in Cairo, Egypt. Gardell specializes in the study of religious extremism and religious racism in the United States, studying groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, Nation of Islam, and folkish movements in Neopaganism (Odinism). Gardell was one of eleven Swedish activists from Ship to Gaza participating in the flotilla that tried to break the Israeli embargo of the Gaza strip. Along with his wife, Gardell was aboard MV Mavi Marmara during the Israeli armed forces raid on the flotilla on the morning of 31 May 2010.

Santi Soekanto

Santi Soekanto is the former Chief Editor of The Brunei Times. She is the founder of Sahabat Al-Aqsha and editor of www.sahabatalaqsha.com.

One of the hundreds of survivors in the Mavi Marmara raid, she wrote a very touching letter entitled 'Gaza tidak membutuhkanmu!' or 'Gaza doesn't need you.'

Dr N.S. Rajendran is the President of Malaysia Hindudharma Mamandram, a religious non-governmental organization (NGO) serving the Hindu community of Malaysia.

Rajendran has conducted various workshops and seminars for teachers and ministry of education officials on the teaching of higher-order thinking skills, both locally and in countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. He has also conducted seminars and workshops to train teachers and ministry of education officials from Malaysia, Maldives, Bangladesh and Nepal in areas such as educational psychology, pedagogy, qualitative research methodology and teacher education.

Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid

Chairman of Peace Malaysia (Aman Malaysia). He has been appointed as Executive Director of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) with effect from May 04, 2009. He was appointed to the Board of MRCB on 12 January 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of Bristol, England.

Datuk Ahmad Zaki was a Senior Executive Officer at the Issues and Investment Division of the Securities Commission of Malaysia from November 1994 to July 1998. There upon, from August 1998 to February 2000, he worked as a Senior Consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton (Kuala Lumpur/ Singapore). He assumed the role of Special Assistant to YB Dato' Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister of Youth and Sports, from March 2000 to June 2001. In July 2001, he joined the Deputy Prime Minister's Office as Special Assistant to Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi and was promoted as the Special Officer to Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi and Head of Policy Unit, Prime Minister's Office, from November 2003 to March 2009.He is Excutive Director of MRCB.

Dr Roslan Mohd Noor

Dr Roslan Mohd Noor is an academician in Islamic Education Academy, University of Malaya. He is well known to be knowledgeable in the sphere of Palestine history, Jerusalem-Islam, Zionism and other related fields. Dr Roslan obtain his PhD from University of Aberdeen.

He has contributed his latest paperwork on issues relating to Palestine and Zionism in a seminar "Convention The End of The Zionist Agenda" in PWTC.

Another work of him entitled "The History of Rise and Fall of Islamic Reign in Andalusia: Lessons and Boundaries" which was presented in 'Baldatun Tayyibah Seminar: Andalusia Model' organized by Malaysian Ulama Association (PUM). The seminar took place in a seminar hall of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Shah Alam, Selangor in May 2009.

Zulkefli Mohd Nani

Deputy President of Muslim Care Society Malaysia (MuslimCare). He was the Chairman of the Crisis Management Team of LIFELINE4GAZA Malaysia when a large group of Malaysian Humanitarian NGOs participated in the International Flotilla to Gaza in 2010.

Zulkefli was also involved in various humanitarian missions across the globe such as to Acheh, Indonesia during Tsunami, to Balakot-Pakistan after the earthquake as well as other humanitarian missions to provide aid to flood victims local and abroad. He also witnessed the collapsed of various towns such as Jabiliyah in Gaza during Cast Lead Operation by Israel when he entered Gaza on 27 January 2009 during the ceased fire duration.
Zulkefli graduated from California State University Fresno, USA with a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics and later obtained his Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. He is currently attached to the International Division of a Malaysian Research Institution.

ElBaradei: We'll fight back if Israel attacks Gaza

Former International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, who had previously announced his intetions to run for the presidency of Egypt, said Monday that “if Israel attacked Gaza we would declare war against the Zionist regime."

In an interview with the Al-Watan newspaper he said: "In case of any future Israeli attack on Gaza - as the next president of Egypt – I will open the Rafah border crossing and will consider different ways to implement the joint Arab defense agreement."

He also stated that "Israel controls Palestinian soil" adding that that "there has been no tangible breakthrough in reconciliation process because of the imbalance of power in the region - a situation that creates a kind of one way peace."

Discussing his agenda for Egypt, ElBaradei said that distribution of income between the different classes in Egypt would be his most important priority if he were to win the upcoming elections.

ELBaradei's main competition is Arab League Secretary General and former Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa. Last month he discussed Egypt's relationship with Israel. "During my term in office the foreign ministry was subject to unfavorable policies from Israel with regards to the peace agreement," Said Moussa who served as foreign minister 1991-2001," he said.

"We thought the peace process was like a waterwheel – endlessly turning around and around without reaching a defined point. My opinion was that we needed to be honest with the Israelis, taking determined measures within the framework of the foreign ministry's operations. Maybe this led to a lack of agreement on all Israel related issues."-ynet.com

EXAM ANXIETY

According wikipedia test anxiety;

"involves a combination of physiological over-arousal, worry and dread about test performance."

Symptoms

Test anxiety has been shown to have a consistently negative relationship with test performance, and test anxious students are found to perform about 12 percentile points below their non-anxious peers.

Test Anxiety is seen to consist of:

Physiological over-arousal — often termed "emotionality." Somatic signs include headaches, stomach aches, nausea, diarrhea, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, light-headedness or fainting, rapid heart beat, and dry mouth.

Worry & Dread — maladaptive cognitions. Include here catastrophic expectations of gloom and doom, fear of failure, random thoughts, feelings of inadequacy, self-condemnation, negative self-talk, frustration, comparing oneself unfavorably to others.

Impairment - poor concentration, 'going blank' or 'freezing,' confusion, poor organization. The inability to concentrate leads to impaired performance on tests.

Most students experience some level of anxiety during a test. However, when anxiety affects exam performance it has become a problem. So here are some tips for those who are preparing for Final Exam.

1) General preparation/building confidence:

Academic counselors can help you in these areas, or refer to the links given:

Developing good study habits and strategies

Managing time;(dealing with procrastination, distractions, laziness)

Organizing material to be studied and learned. Take a step by step approach to build a strategy and not get overwhelmed

Outside pressures; success/failure consequences (grades, graduation), peer pressure, competitiveness, etc.

Reviewing your past performance on teststo improve and learn from experience

2) Test preparation to reduce anxiety:

Approach the exam with confidence; use whatever strategies you can to personalize success: vizualization, logic, talking to your self, practice, team work, journaling, etc.

View the exam as an opportunity to show how much you've studied and to receive a reward for the studying you've done

Be prepared!

Learn your material thoroughly and organize what materials you will need for the test. Use a checklist

Choose a comfortable location for taking the test with good lighting and minimal distractions

Allow yourself plenty of time, especially to do things you need to do before the test and still get there a little early.

Strive for a relaxed state of concentration

Avoid speaking with any fellow students who have not prepared, who express negativity, who will distract your preparation.

A program of exercise is said to sharpen the mind

Get a good night's sleep on the night before the exam

Don't go to the exam with an empty stomach

Fresh fruits and vegetables are often recommended to reduce stress.
Stressful foods can include processed foods, artificial sweeteners, carbonated soft drinks, chocolate, eggs, fried foods, junk foods, pork, red meat, sugar, white flour products, chips and similar snack foods, foods containing preservatives or heavy spices

Take a small snack, or some other nourishment to help take your mind off of your anxiety.

Avoid high sugar content (candy) which may aggravate your condition

3) During the test.
Make du'as to Him
Read the directions carefully
Budget your test taking time
Change positions to help you relax
If you go blank, skip the question and go on
If you're taking an essay test and you go blank on the whole test, pick a question and start writing. It may trigger the answer in your mind
Don't panic when students start handing in their papers. There's no reward for being the first done

4) If you find yourself tensing and getting anxious during the test

Relax; you are in control.
Take slow, deep breaths
Don't think about the fear
Pause: think about the next step and keep on task, step by step
Use positive reinforcement for yourself:
Acknowledge that you have done, and are doing, your best
Expect some anxiety. It's a reminder that you want to do your best and can provide energy
Just keep it manageable
Realize that anxiety can be a "habit" and that it takes practice to use it as a tool to succeed
Do shalawat (blessing) to the prophet SAW.

5) After the test, review how you did

List what worked, and hold onto these strategies
It does not matter how small the items are: they are building blocks to success
List what did not work for improvement
Celebrate that you are on the road to overcoming this obstacle
Say Alhamdulillah.
